Emerging from the forest floor as a tightly coiled fern frond, it slowly unfolds into something entirely new while remaining connected to what came before.

The kihikihi / cicada spends years hidden beneath the earth before emerging into the sunlight and announcing it’s arrival with it’s loud clicking song.

This drawing was inspired by the importance of pausing to reset, navigating difficult seasons, and learning to appreciate the beauty that already surrounds us. It is a reflection on moving through challenges, finding strength in small moments, and recognising that even after periods of hardship, new growth is always possible.

Dimensions: A6, 104mm × 148mm

Paper: Textured Mohawk Superfine Eggshell 270gsm paper stock, using FSC-certified mixed pulp from responsible sources.

Printed: In Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Supplied: With an envelope.
