Emma Evangeline is an artist and best-selling illustrator based on the Coromandel Peninsula.
Her works are deeply inspired by the forests, coastlines and native birdlife of Aotearoa. She strives to capture the pristine energy and intricate beauty of the land through her detailed acrylic paintings.

I wanted to paint a portrait of a kererū sitting in a kawakawa bush. The aquamarine and deep green highlights of the leaves mirror the colouring of the kererū and I thought it would work well having the bird contrast against a dark background.
